The other side of the world... day 7... the post you've been waiting for!!

Can you believe they are saying rain and maybe SNOW for today? WHAT!?? LOL Oh, you don't want to hear about the weather, do you... hehe

I know you want pictures, but you will just have to read first (or do like I do and scroll down and look and then come back for the story hehe).

We got to the orphanage, and waited in the office for about 20 minutes, I think there was a staff meeting in the Director’s office, we saw lots of people going in in white smocks. We thought we were going to see the Director first, but instead, we got to go see the Doctor. Marina and the social worker went with us of course.

We listened very intently (and I took lots of notes!) to her tell us about his history. They were very thorough. The issues that he does have are very easily treated when we get home (if they are even issues once we get him checked out at home lol). The nanny came to the door to let us know that he was out there, so we finished with the medical stuff.

Dumb American … stunt #9987… cry like a baby when they bring the child you have been dreaming about into the room! That’s me! I cried! I don’t think I could have been more emotional if I had given birth to him myself!!

When they brought him in, we talked to him for a bit, and then I offered him the little truck that we brought for him. They showed us one of the physical things that they had talked to us about (NOTHING major at all!!), and he came over to me.

I had asked if I could take pictures, and they said yes, so I had already snapped a few, and he wanted to see, so I showed him, and he was very interested in seeing himself. He even said his name when he saw it. The whole time he was standing next to us, one or the other of us was touching him, rubbing his hair, whatever. Just checking to make sure he’s really there!

I hadn’t closed my bag all the way, and his little kid radar kicked into gear and he saw the package of cookies that was in there. I asked if it was ok to let him have some, I didn’t want to spoil his lunch! Let me tell you, if he didn’t like us before, he does now! hehe He liked the cookies (they are like animal crackers) that we brought. He played with his little truck, and I asked Marina to take a photo with all of us. But first, I wanted to know if he knew who these strange people were, and if he understood. She said that until we agreed that we wanted him, they couldn’t tell him that we are his Momma & Papa. I asked when we needed to tell them, and she said today, almost like we were going to need to think about it! NOPE!! Wrap him up, we’ll take ‘im!! hehe

While the nanny/nurse was telling him who we are, Marina was telling me that she knew that he had seen other children being adopted, and knew what it was about, so once they told him it seemed to click. When I held out my hands he let me pick him up, and Marina snapped our pic. I held him close and kissed him on the cheek. I didn’t want to overwhelm him, but he was ok with that.

They told him to say “paka” to Momma & Papa, and he said “Paka”. I knelt down in front of him and said “Paka, tomorrow” and held his little hand.

He is precious. He is beautiful. He is tiny!! About the size of a 2 yr old. But so perfect! It’s so surreal, so overwhelming to finally have held him! I got to see a smile!! He is ticklish. hehe The words just don’t do justice to how I am feeling right now, and to how thankful I am.
Ok, ok… here are the pictures!! hehe

Here he is, they had just brought him in and he was like "Ok, now what?" Notice the Mickey Mouse pants!! hehe

We brought him a hot wheels truck, he knew just what to do with it!

I gave John the cookies so I could take his picture again.

The photo that everyone has been waiting for!!! Momma, Papa, & Timothy!!

I wish ours had been more like yours where they brought her to us but we were brought to her and when I walked in the room I just dropped the camera at the site of her at the table, oh well :)

  14. Mel,
Well I played into stunt #9987 too. Cried like a baby when she first came in. I was told that was ok though, so I just let them flow. Isn't it an amazing thing? Meeting your child for the first time. Congratulations! He's so cute.
And it was snowing when I landed in Russia. Didn't stick though. :)

  16. Mel, I can not even begin to express my happiness for you. I know that without my going into detail, that you know where I'm coming from. Not having the ability to experience the blessing of birth, I only have my experience that I have. I cried. I bawled. I ran through EVERY gammet of emotion that a human being can experience. Reading your post reminded me of that very same day for us. God truly does work in His own time and His own way. I thank Him and praise Him for that. I wish you every bit of peace and awareness of the moment. It just goes so fast. I know that you are looking forward to getting him home, but take time to take each and every moment into your heart and soul. You have this blog and your camera, but not even that can capture the weight of his little body against yours, the softness of his hair and warmth of his skin, the expression of his face as they explained to him who you were. I am so incredibly happy for you! Please take care of yourself. Thank you so much for sharing your very private, very joyful, very AWESOME experience. I'm thinking back to grade school. . .who'da thunk?!?!?!?
Hugs 'n LOTS 'O Love, Kimie Sue <3
