The other side of the world... day 21 (Wow! 3 weeks!?)

I'm sitting in the mall food court having McDonalds chick nuggets for my brunch(they are cheap, and they understand that in English!). I've already been to the orphanage this morning, and I'm skipping this evening's visit so that my driver can have the afternoon/evening off with his family. I feel guilty making him work 7 days a week, even if I am paying him, ya know(I don't pay when I don't go)?

Timothy is a chow hound!! I can't get him to leave other people's food alone!! When another family is visiting, they all bring treats for the kids, biscuits, cookies, yogurt, juice, fruit, whatever. I take him something too usually any of those things, or he also really likes pretzels. Anyway, he'll eat his, totally wolfing it down, and then go begging. I usually follow after saying "Nyet!!" (No!), but they generally feed him anyway. It makes me crazy! This morning the kid ate a yogurt(he LOVES that stuff), 4 shortbread cookies, *2* biscuit thingys, a small apple (yay! he will eat it without needing it peeled/cored!!), and another cookie type thing. All of this was in the course of about an hr and a half. I'm sure he will NOT eat his lunch, and the Nannies will be cranky with ME! LOL I know it's orphanage behavior... not getting enough, or feeling like they have to eat fast and as much as they can while it's available. :( Someday I hope he doesn't feel that way and can/will enjoy food/meals. Sigh

I'm also VERY happy that I brought the stroller(I actually have a "God" story about the stroller that I will share if anyone is interested) because he is still trying that I'mnotwalkingandyou'renotgonnamakeme thing. I could just see THAT in the airport. NOT!!

I was a little worried about moving in with the Bachmans, but honestly, it's been really fun. Their son is with them, he's 5, his name is Evan. We had a little period of showing off for Mel yesterday, but by evening, he had settled down pretty much. And like Cathy mentioned this morning, we have talked non-stop since I got there and still haven't run out of material! God DEFINITELY knew what He was doing when He lined up our trips to be here together. I would certainly have been completely stir crazy staying alone in the hotel that we were in.

Tonight, since I'm not going back to visit, I am making dinner. Spaghetti sauce, from scratch! Of course, I have to find some oregano, but that's the only thing that I might have problems with. The market has TONS of yummy fresh veggies that I'll use. They do NOT have jar sauce here!! Too funny! Actually, they really don't have a lot in the way of "convenience" foods. No oreos! hehe No packaged cake mixes, frostings, etc. It's been interesting. Now that I'm in an apartment again though, with a kitchen, and with the Bachmans, it's SO much better. I actually ate TWO homecooked meals yesterday(Cathy & Tully are BOTH very good cooks!!), and one was just sort of thrown together with leftovers! LOL You don't know how much you miss it till you gotta go without it. :) They promised Evan McDs today though, so I figured I'd come and take advantage of the Wi-Fi. We have a network card that they have been wonderful enough to share with me at the apartment but it is soooooo slow!! But, I am NOT complaining, I mean, I have ICE again!!

I forgot my camera, so the pics will have to wait a little while longer. I'll be back!! :)

  2. I wanna hear your God/stroller story! And I am glad you've got some friends to keep you company. I'm a little afraid of that for me when we travel for Paisley. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I'm preparing my heart since Sophia is in the same region as Paisley. I'm not sure if she's in the same orphanage but if she is and I see her I might get arrested for grabbing her up when we leave with Paisley. Love ya sweet Mel. Have a great day! Happy Halloween!

    Love wins,

  3. I want to hear the God story too!! I had a funny dream about a week ago. I dreamed that I was packing spices to take with us when we travel. But the way I packed them was by putting about a teaspoonful of each spice in one of those weekly drug planner boxes. (One spice in each day. Do you have any idea what I mean?) But I think it might work. :)

Spaghetti was one of our staples there! I took a cheap jar of Italian seasoning and a shaker of Parmesan cheese with us, so all we had to buy were noodles and jarred tomatoes. (I even managed to get the right ones on the first try without a translator!) Other two easy options: grilled cheese and eggs!
