Today was a big day for us (and the Bachmans). We had to meet and gain the approval of the District Director of Familly Services this morning. A few years ago a child who was adopted was beaten(here, not abroad), and this man decided that the system had to change. He decided that every family who wanted to adopt would have to be met by him before he would sign the paperwork. I have to tell you, if everyplace was like that… well… anyway…
We met the social workers boss first. She chatted with us, and actually put us all at ease. She was so funny when she realized that our anniversary is on January 1. Here, everyone is passed out on January 1 from all of the celebrations. hehe We were all cracking up. She asked if that’s how we got each other to agree to marriage… we were both drunk! LOL
After we got her approval, it was time for the big guy. We went to his office, and he is behind two closed doors. Gulp! We sat patiently, and waited to be invited in. There was also a Ukrainian couple there. They went first and were out in a flash. Ut oh… We were next. We were invited to sit down, and our facilitator told him a little about us. Then he asked about our other children. We showed pics. hehe She told him what the orphanage director had said about Olivia looking Ukrainian. He chuckled. He said they were beautiful. He asked why we wanted to adopt from Ukraine. I answered honestly, by saying that we had heard about your country and that you have very beautiful children. He thought about that for a moment, and started signing our documents. YAY!!!
So, today Marina had to go to the orphanage to pick us the documents that they had to fill out, and take the stuff from this morning all to the judge. There she will talk to the judge, and have a court date for us hopefully today!! Please pray that she gets it today. It’s already going to be 7 days from the time we get the date until the day of court, and we’re getting close to the wire on John’s return home.
It would be really great if he just decided to have court like tomorrow or Monday… hehe
So pray for a fast court date!! I’ll post again after this evening’s visit!! I can’t wait to see my little guy!!
Baby steps taking you all the closer to the day you walk off that plane with your SON in your arms!! Praise God for those baby steps.
