The other side of the world... day 1

I won’t be able to post this until we have internet somewhere, so if you are reading it, you know we have connected. hehe

As I type, we are sitting in the airport in Frankfurt, Germany. It is 6:30 am here, 11:30pm at home. The whole time difference thing just cracks me up.

I gotta tell ya, the flight here from Chicago makes me not want to be a sardine. Boy, talk about close quarters. And the man in front of us had one of those booming gruff voices, and he did NOT shut up until about an hour before we landed here. I finally got out the earplugs so I wouldn’t have to hear him. hehe I watched “Grown Ups” on the way. I think at one point John watched “Mary Poppins”. I slept a little. The food was good though, and the staff was VERY nice.

Frankfurt on the other hand, we’ve found that they are clueless when it comes to telling us where we need to be. We are sitting at the gate listed on the tickets, but the guy behind the desk says he doesn’t know if we’re in the right place or not. Ummm… ok. John just took off to find out. I’m telling you, if we’re in the wrong place, I think I’ll just get on this flight and go where ever it takes us. lol

Ok, so Coke zero & a bottle of water (both room temp, not cold) cost $10!! Yep, you read that right, $10. I’m not even gonna look at the McDonalds menu, we’ll eat granola bars and wheat thins for breakfast thankyouverymuch. LOL
Other than being tired, and a little cranky, we’re doing fine. We’ve spent the last 18 hrs in airports or planes, but we’re on the home stretch. This is the last flight for today. YAY!!!

Yep, we were in the wrong place. Turns out there is a whooooole other part to the airport in Frankfurt and that’s where we needed to be. It wasn’t just us though, most of the people who were at that other gate were supposed to be there too. We all found out in plenty of time though, so that’s all that matters.

There I was, minding my own business, and a woman walked up and said “Are you Mel?”
Oh for goodness sakes, halfway around the world and someone has tracked me down!! “Ummm, yeah”. She said, “As soon as I saw the stroller with no kid, I thought, that has to be Mel.” LOL Yep, it was Cathy and her hubby, son, and her Mom!!! How exciting!! We flew from Frankfurt together, although they were closer to the middle of t plane, and we were in the back. hehe

Once we got here, we met another couple, Scott & Lindsey, who aren’t adopting through RR, but are here for a blind referral and are working with Yulia & Serge.
Once we were all delivered to our apartments (which aren’t close to each other sadly), we just hung out for a bit. Then, Niko came by and brought us a cellphone, and took us to get groceries. THAT was fun!! I took some photos of the foods that I’ll post tomorrow. hehe

John’s already snoring behind me, it’s only like 9pm here but it’s been a long couple of days! LOL

Stay tuned… there will be MUCH more over the next few days… weeks… hehehe Tomorrow night we are hoping to meet up with BUNCHES of RR families for supper!! YAY!!
