The other side of the world... THE LAST DAY!!!

Embassy day 2
Today we ALL go back to the Embassy to pick up the children’s visas!!  When I think of how today COULD have turned out, I am SO thankful to God for once again providing just what we need, just in time.  Sheesh… I could really do without the close calls though Lord.  lol
Unfortunately, today it is also raining and icky outside.  This means that we’re basically stuck in the apartment with three children 5 & under, one of them being my son who I am sure has at least 8 arms that move at lightning speed because when you look at him he is a sweet little boy with disaster all around him.  It’s the only explanation I have for the way he could possibly reach everything and get into everything that is within his reach (and bunches of things that are not).  It will be nice when we’re home and I have four more sets of eyes to watch out for him (though, I’ll have to train the other kids on what to look for!). LOL Unless of course, I manage to go completely insane between now and tomorrow night when we are finally home… which is entirely possible at this point.
I’ve noticed a few issues(besides hidden extra arms hehe)  that will need to be addressed by therapy sometime in his future as well.  Unfortunately though, probably not until after some serious speech therapy, and learning English.
Please pray that we have very understanding people next to us on the planes tomorrow.  He is so grabby, I am so afraid he is going to really annoy the people around us, I know we’ll never see them again, but it will make an already very long day even longer if I have to spend it defending other people’s belongings against octopus boy.
We leave for the airport in the morning at 3am local time (that’s 7pm Friday night for those in Central time(thought I’d do the math for you Carrie hehe)). So as you are getting ready to go to bed tonight, we will be well on our way to Chicago, having already gone through Frankfurt, Germany.
We will land in Moline at 3:53pm on Saturday!  I AM READY!!  Ok, I still have packing to do, and need to make it through the next 36ish hours, but WE’RE COMIN’ HOME!!!!
Later:
Ugh… I don’t know how I’m going to get out of here in the morning without waking everyone up.  We leave at 3 am!  LOL  I’m packed, US money is back in the wallet, Ukrainian money is handy for the cab driver, traded Cathy for some since they’ll be here till Monday.
The same lady that was there yesterday was there today and when she saw me she asked if I was there to make an appointment for Monday since the papers didn’t come.  I said “Oh no, I’ve already spoken to the intake guy, he took all of the papers.” Then I told her the story of yesterday’s happenings after I left her.  She was truly excited for me.  hehe   She was actually the one that handed over his passport with the freshly printed visa attached.  I could tell she was very happy to do so.
Another fun thing that happened today is we met Tammy & Dan D. (not EVEN gonna try to spell it!  LOL  I did learn how to SAY it today though!).  Tammy recognized Timothy, and pointed to him and said “Timothy?” and I was a little puzzled and said “Yes” and she told me that they were adopting Mayah and I knew immediately who they were.  I just love our little RR family!!  Dan is leaving in the morning too, and was there to sign the forms so he could leave.  They had court, successfully, yesterday.  YAY!!   We also met a very sweet family from NC who was here (not through RR but she knows Andrea and RR very well, and is even praying about a little girl on RR).  And of course, we saw the VanDykes again too.  They looked a little tired today and I didn’t really get a chance to talk to them, I was too busy yacking Tammy’s ear off!
I was so relieved to have things all work out today that I was in a fog the rest of the evening.  LOL
Didn’t get to go shopping but that’s ok.  I have a few things for everyone, and I’m sure they’ll forgive me since the biggest and bestest present is the wonderful little octopus boy that’s curled up in the other room fast asleep.
I obviously won’t be blogging for the next day or so, or at least till I get to an airport with free Wi-Fi.  hehe  Ok, seriously, I don’t see that as an option either since I’ll be needing to keep Timothy happy.  I’ll try to post a little note when we get home… no promises though!
Please pray for traveling mercies for us tomorrow, and for our seat companions to be gracious.  LOL  Seriously…
Paka!!

  4. You'll probably be home by the time you read this, but we are praying it is a smooth trip and that God will send you angels on your flights! He sent us three! They each arrived at different, very trying times... and they all spoke English AND Russian, so they were able to explain to our little girl what was going on. Important things, like: Where are they taking our suitcases? Why are we getting back off the airplane when it never went anywhere? How many more airplanes will we have to find and are you sure they won't crash?!

Take care of your family first and know that your blog-friends will keep praying!

  7. So happy for you - Timothy is a darling little octopus (you and Cathy should write a book entitled "The Octopus and the Mermaid", once everyone's home :-))

Can Timothy sit by the window en route home? Of course, as noted by another reader, this helpful suggestion will probably reach you once you're back home in Iowa. In any case,
I wish you traveling blessings for this final part of your long journey, and all sorts of blessings for the days and years yet to come!

    Best wishes,
    Cathy's friend Susan in Ky

Mel, thank you so much for posting your entire trip. I can't tell you how greatful I am to have been able to follow along on this journey. Your outlook has given me a positive role model to strive to follow while we make our journey. Tons of love to you and your family.
