There is a Birthday party post coming, I promise!! My best friend Stacey took all kinds of pics for us but I don’t have them from her yet. So as soon as I do, I’ll post!
There have been several posts on our RR yahoo groups lately about what our special needs kids can do. How “unteachable” they are (insert sarcasm here).
Let me tell you something about yesterday though. I was cleaning things up from cooking lunch while the kids were eating. Putting away the food, loading the dishwasher, etc. The girls finished before Timothy, so they got up from the table. I told them it was ok to leave their plates there since I wasn’t really ready for them at the sink yet, and I didn’t want them to spill anything. After a few minutes Timothy told me he was “Done”. I unhooked his seatbelt and asked if he needed help getting down. He said “No” so I let him get down and finished putting the last pan in the dishwasher. As I was doing that, he brought his plate to me, put the fork in the sink, and turned to the trashcan and scraped his plate and put it in the dishwasher! I have NEVER showed him to do that!! THEN he proceeded to do the same with the girl’s plates!! I gave him the dish cloth and asked if he wanted to clean the table, and he climbed on the bench and did that too!! Ok, I went behind him to redo that task, but hey, he tried! hehe I was just floored. He has always picked up the toys, books, clothes, put things in the hamper, dressed himself, fed himself, etc , but WHO knew he could do the dishes too!? LOL He loves putting the soap thingy into the little compartment and closing that, and the dishwasher door, and pushing the button to turn it on too. We keep a gate up so he can’t be in the kitchen otherwise I’m afraid the dishwasher would run 24/7. hehe
Tomorrow is finally our appointment with the Developmental Pediatrician at the DS Clinic in Iowa City. I’m looking forward to it. I have my list of questions to ask, and am going to insist on X-rays to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be in his spine/neck.
Ok… back to work…
That is exciting Mel!!! You got a buddi in the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteHe watches everything you do!!
Praying for you as you go to Iowa City Wednesday...
