Give me a break!!

I’m watching a STUPID… yep, I said it… commercial for ASPCA… all about “saving a poor animal’s life” for just $XX a month… “join us in making a difference in an animal’s life”…
Ok, before you all start throwing the flames at me, and thinking I’m a coldhearted meanie who doesn’t love animals, I want to show you something…
This is Carrington Burman…
During a visit at the orphanage

And this is Carrington Burman…

The first time they saw her without all of the layers at the orphanage
She was adopted recently from the same country that Timothy came from(not the same region though). As soon as she got home, they took her straight to the hospital.  She was already in organ failure, her body preparing for death, and weighs only *11* pounds.  No, that isn’t a typo…  She is a very very ill little girl…
THIS is how I choose to make a difference… THIS is how I want to save a life… so forgive me if I don’t get the warm fuzzies at the stupid ASPCA commercial when there are CHILDREN who are in need.  There are CHILDREN who are dying.
A little boy was denied his family this week because he has Down syndrome.  A family was told that they would not be “approved” for adopting a special needs child.  A Momma & Papa had to make the heartbreaking decision to not adopt a child child because the issues that he has are too much for their family to handle; now they grieve for the son that they have already loved for so long.
THOSE are the lives that *I* want to make a difference for.  THOSE are the ones I wish I could do something for.  THOSE are the ones that I wish I could help with a “donation”.  THOSE are the ones that I will pray for until God makes His plan for them known to us.
There are families in the process right now to raise the money to go to their children, to bring them home, where they will be loved, and cared for, and get the medical attention that they need, and the education that they deserve…the Tam Family ... or the Burlingham Family ...or ANY of the families or children at Reece's Rainbow .
Can't afford to help in that way? Completly understandable!!  There IS something you can do... PRAY soldiers!!  PRAY!!! Take these families, and these children to the throne of God, and ask for their lives.  Pray that the comfort that only God can give will surround them.  Pray that God provides for the needs that they have.
Pray for the families above, but also for The Davis family... and the Alkhazraji family... and the Moreno family... Pray that God will work in a mighty way... we know He can... we just have to ask...

  2. It really is all about perspective isn't it? We are quick to send money for this or that charity, but we forget that there are children starving. Children that need families! Thanks for a bit of perspective this morning!

  3. Completely agree!! I love animals, don't get me wrong. And my kids absolutely adore them. But these are PEOPLE! People with feelings and hopes and dreams. There was recently a news story I saw online about a family who had 12 animals that were well fed and TWO BABIES in the house--one was already dead the other was close, due to neglect and abuse (including starvation). HOW? WHY? And Little Miss Carrington had me in tears for a couple of days once I saw the second picture.

So forgive me ASPCA, I think your charity is a noble one. And animals deserve love and medial treatment, too. But my heart is with the orphans who need it more.

  4. You know, I had this same rant about the same commercial the other day. :) I also love animals, but if we have to choose what to do with our limited funds and who we should help...there's no contest.

  5. I'm cool with saving animals and babies, what really irks me is the amount of money people spend on things like new cars and freaking $20,000 couches. I went to school with MANY teenagers who got $50,000 cars for their 16th birthday. That just seems wrong to me.

Like, really? Save animals. They're living. Save children. They're innocent. But what does having a $6,000 dining room chair do for you? I don't get how people can spend SO much money on things like that.

  6. Love you, Mel. I wanted to go back after we get Paisley home, I wanted another daughter.... We struggle to raise anything for Paisley...to think of doing it all again... Everyone sends good thoughts and everyone wants to celebrate on gotcha day but very few want to give anything at all. And all I want to do is cry for my daughter.

    Love finds a way,

  10. Mel, I feel the same way. But my mouth is always hanging open over what people chose to promote and spend their money on. I love animals also and my 7 year old wants to be a vet. Still....how many commercials do we see on adopting children in crisis? I won't stop yelling about it until the Lord takes me home :)
